fun in spain part 3.
my 3rd and final post on my shenanigans in spain (oooh alliteration :P).
the best 2 nights i had whilst sunning myself in malaga was in fact the last two.
we'd became friendly with the owners of a small bar called the Laughters Bar. Last christmas we went to see a drag (man dressed as a lady, duh!) show and were keen on seeing another this year, so we asked Richard (Laughter Bar owner) if he knew of any. He said there was 2:-
1. Bunnies - a big show; only downside being that the drinks would be expensive (5 euros a pint! that's 3 pound fifty, or around 7 dollars to you americans) and there was a fee to get in (20 euros a head; about 14 pound or roughly 28 dollars per person!)
2. Minogues - a smaller show, where the drinks were cheaper and there was no entrance fee. Richard was friendly with the people who worked there so it was ideal. Richard was kind enough to even offer to take all 10 of us there and back in his car.
it turned out my gramp was too ill to go so my nan stayed with him and tony and eve (their 2 friends) stayed as well. that left 6 of us (me, ob, mum, dad, aunt and uncle).
so off we went to the show. there was pre-show jitters from all the male members of our group. we were all fearing being called up on stage and Richard kept joking he was going to get the lady/man to single us out.
my dad was seriously scared. it was quite funny. he said if he got called up on stage he'd be out the door. i didnt know whether to believe Richard or take it as a joke and was a little nervy myself. im not keen on being the centre of attention on stage!
anyway the show started off and there wasnt many people in the audience, because of this we were begged to sit at the front (uh oh!), which we did.
it was a good show, plenty of laughs. the lady/man poked fun at people in the crowd (including me) but we all took it light-heartidly. for the finale, the drag man/lady entered the audience.
...
he/she made a beeline straight for my dad and sat on the table in front of him. she put her legs around his head and serenaded him. it was damn hilarious; i'll have to get my holiday photos on here somehow.
all in all it was a great night; i was pissed as a fart. i drank 6 pints, had 3 shots of this horrible flurescent coloured liquid and downed a 'death charge' (nasty stuff).
surprisingly i wasnt sick but i had a cracking hangover in the morning!
new year's eve was equally as good.
because of timezones, spain is one hour ahead of england, so we had 2 new years to see in!
we spent the first one on the complex, in the bar.
there were 2 blokes performing that night. Rob Stevens & Gordon Williams. they were both pretty good; Rob Stevens had a cracking voice.
we saw the spain new year in traditional spain style - apparently. grapes and champagne were given out. at each bell chime signalling 12 o clock you had to eat a grape, then wash it down with champagne. this is supposed to give you good luck.
no eating 12 grapes in around 12 seconds is bloody hard work; especially when they arent seedless! we did the usual new year ritual of auld lang syne and what have you.
for the english new year we went down the Laughters Bar. when we turned up it was dead. the chairs were all put up and Richard and Suzanne didnt look too happy behind the bar. they revealed none of their regulars turned up after promising they would and were about to go until we turned up. they decided to stay cos we came and we saw in the new year there.
alls i remember from the rest of the night is doing DJ Casper's Cha Cha Slide, more than once (oh the shame :P), attempting to do 'Oops Upside Your Head' but having no clue what i was doing and serenading a Scottish butch lesbian to " Summer Lovin' ".
:D
that was the main highlights from my holiday, i had a quality time.
so that brings me up to date and into 2005.
if you read all that have a cookie! *hands out cookies*
i have no clue why but im feeling really optimistic about this year.
it's going to be my year!
here's to hoping...
chro.
